The club holds a number of other activities as follows. For more specific details see Upcoming Activities.

    • In addition to providing opportunities for outdoor activities, the purpose of the Club includes organising social functions to promote interactions among members. To this end, the Club has a very strong social focus and is known as ‘The Friendly Club’.

    • The club meets on the first Thursday of each month (except January) starting at 7:30 pm and usually finishing by 9:00 pm. Club Members and visitors are welcome. Unless otherwise advised the venue is Camberwell Library, 340 Camberwell Road,Camberwell, Meeting Room 1, ground floor with access ramp to building. Access is from the Reserve Road side of the building, where someone will let you in.  This is marked with a pink cross on the map below. Please do not attempt to enter the library (on the other side) which closes at 6, or through any other door.

Parking: Free parking is available in the Council carpark behind the building (entered from Inglesby Road), Reserve Road, or on the opposite side of Camberwell Road in the carpark accessed by Butler Street or Riversdale Road.  See areas marked in red on the map below.

Public Transport: The 72 Tram runs from Camberwell Station along Burke Road; the 70 tram runs from the city along Riversdale Road, and the 75 tram runs from the city along Riversdale Road and then Camberwell Road dropping you outside the library. There are also numerous bus options.

Visitors should email the secretary at enquiries@walkingclubvic.org.au to record their intention to attend. The secretary can also provide a link to attend by Zoom, rather than in person, if that option is preferred.

The ordinary business of the meetings is to discuss the forthcoming walks for the month and raise any other club business. Annual General Meetings are also held in this forum. The formal business of each club night is followed by a presentation or activity loosely related to walking. There have been presentations of overseas walks, recent base camps, first aid in the bush, walking equipment, trivia nights, and films.

The meetings also provide an opportunity for members to meet and compare notes.

    • Restaurant nights are held every second month, usually on the second Thursday evening, in restaurants close to public transport. Club lunches are held on alternate months to the dinners, usually on the second Friday of the month. Lunches and dinners are held in pubs or restaurants and may be BYO or fully licensed. All Club members, partners, and friends are welcome. The lunches and dinners also provide an opportunity to celebrate significant birthdays of members (those ending with a ‘0’) and to recognise significant membership anniversaries.

    • WCV also celebrates Christmas lunch on a Saturday in either late November or early December. The Christmas lunch provides an opportunity for recognition of the club’s and its member’s achievements. All club members, partners and friends are welcome.

    • Other social activities (music events, movies, arts, book club, etc) are arranged informally between members using a platform called Slack. For more details see Social Networks.

    • Interstate or overseas trips involving walking and/or base camps are held on a less frequent basis. Advance notice is given in the program. These events give members the opportunity for a great holiday with like-minded people.
